Comforts In Living Today
By Ebenezer K N BaidenAmissah

Just tell somebody the well-known saying, “he who lives by the sword shall die by the sword”, and one might get discouraged thinking he cannot fight some battles in life because he might be defeated one day.

There is a strongly held belief that the spearheads and inventors of technological creativity and innovation face weird discomforts as a gross result of their illustrious ideas and ambitions. People are often worried about bulky e-mail and SMS text messages. They simply delete them most of the time without painstakingly reading quickly through them. My concentration here is not on the kinds of unsolicited or spam messages mostly referred to as Nigerian letters.

But come to think of it. Our preachers often exhort us with the words from the Holy Scriptures that believers of the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ must endeavour to equip themselves with weapons of spiritual warfare.(Reference: “ Take the sword of the Spirit which is the word of God” )Technology is presently versatile. It is full of power. In an office environment there is a constant battle for the very best in doing things: some call it “softer skills” in some disciplines. There is an ensuing warfare comprising of individuals seeking to rise beyond all levels of mediocrity in order live in comfort and luxury.

Currently, believers of the Christian faith have at their exposure a wealth of technological ammunition. Take “e-sword” for instance. The Bible could quickly be read through instantly online. Some people often receive Scriptural messages through SMS texts and other helpful related information. The fight is still on.
All who start the hunt for nothing but the best life gives must be willing to use modern devices like these until their very lives expire on this planet earth. We could thus live by this “sword” and die by this “sword” in a victorious way.

The flaws in our view concerning modern day technological invention should not be given the chance to rule over us. Such thoughts should not hold us captives. Our biased and immature concepts of useful technology should not set inordinate limits for us. We could be the pilots of positive change from our old diabolical cultural perception of life and control the recent features that come along with ICT and tailor them further to suit our lifestyles in a very pleasant way. Technology should not control us we should be in the control.

A renowned reverend minister of a mother Christian organisation I am affiliated to (URL: www.apostolicfaith.org) once said in his days that there is no great harm in taking short useful notes during a very serious personal prayer session. This according to him would prevent the habit of getting distracted in one’s thoughts whilst communing or doing earnest business with one’s Creator. A similar opinion could be developed on our attitude at important corporate business functions.

Thanks to mobile telephony for instance, users are afforded with the chance of keeping important reminders, acquiring a log of all missed calls and users could also store quite a good amount of valuable notes on their memory facilities. Adjustable features on the settings of such devices such as silent, loud, lights only-input and output displays- could enhance our lifestyles and we have the privilege to choose which particular option befits any social event or occasion.

Women too who claim to assume key leadership positions, who become innovators, or “technological soldiers” must “live by the technological sword” and be willing to “die by it”. In their quest for competition with their male counterparts globally they should not only be broad-minded about present day technology but it pays to be open-minded. Women of today must endeavour to see beyond this very world, and experience liberty in contacting their peers, be they females also like them, or males unlike them, without going against their laws of friendship, commitment and marital relationship with their loved ones.

It is little wonder that technology seeks to create a coherent interface between diverse electronic gadgets. We must also seek to do likewise by living in unity and togetherness with all people.
