BEHIND THOSE DOORS-----
Beware of Strangers....
(By Ebenezer K N Baiden-Amissah)
I was startled one afternoon when I decided to strike up a conversation with a very young girl aged probably nine at her daddy’s residence. She had then arrived from London several hours ago and my question resembled this one: "What’s your name young girl?" Her reply was rather apologetic; "I can’t talk to a stranger."
Back home upon narrating this incidence to a relation, he commented that I should have told this girl that I was not a stranger.
Technological advancement in the world today has improved upon the speed of communication. But we still live in a limited world. Humans themselves are in many ways limited. Our day to day lifestyle is mostly influenced by the saying, "The devil you know is better than the angel you don’t know."
Is it necessary to see very one around us as devils? Our answer would quickly be a simple, No! "Be content with the one you are familiar with and though he is not a good fellow, he is far better than someone angelic farther away." This is what the above statement cited is talking about.
Truly, part of the training we give to our young ones is that they should beware of strangers. This upbringing is quite good and acceptable. We teach them to welcome and accept those they are familiar with and to avoid new faces.
It is to some extent interesting to find this same culture persistent among adult folks of today’s society. The notion is such that a person you meet for the first time should not be of prime value to you unless you meet him again for some additional occasions.
Our current way of living does not include opening our arms wide to accommodate such people. The compelling force behind this long-standing tradition is that of doubts and fears. We do not only fear but we still do harbour extreme doubts about the unknown.
Many technocrats of today fear the latest proven technology would work. They do ask themselves these relevant questions: "Will the new system work?" "What if it does not prevail over the recent rising tides of difficulties in the organization but fails?"
I firmly believe that the Holy Bible, the main Christian book for all followers of our Lord Jesus Christ, is a book of historical facts applicable to the trends of culture of people of all ages and centuries. I am not so much surprised when this book of Holy Writings speaks out clearly contrary to many views in regards to our culture of acceptance of people and also suggests a an open-minded culture of acceptance of new technology in today’s computerized world.
Does the Holy Scriptures not say through the Apostle Paul in Hebrews 13:2 (KJV) that; "Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares."?
A technology brought before you today in the comfort of your office could be a blessing dressed in the "garments" of a "stranger" (a blessing in disguise).A lot of morally principled parents would not want to allow their children to have anything to do with internet due to its gross adult content materials. I would like to refer to this as the "adult content stranger".
Despite the various challenges present with the introduction of technology into the main stream of children’s educational curriculum, the people who introduced the technology are convinced of the fact that technology as a "stranger" is angelic in diverse ways.
Have Christian organizations prayed ardently about this filth of adult content materials or "adult content strangers" for God Almighty to change their ways and convert them? What do you also think about this issue?
Some people believe this might help a great deal or else grant your children access to good upbringing and forget this whole issue. If you cannot change the obnoxious "stranger" first, give your children the chance for total moral transformation first. A Divine transformation would be of immense help. For when your children are well –transformed it would have an indelible telling effect on their attitude towards these "adult content strangers".
Let us then encourage our young folks to take full advantage of the new technologies available to us and advise them to use them profitably.
