Questions About Life In Africa--- People Living On Our Streets
The people living on streets in Africa in general and Ghana in particular should be identified by the appropriate authorities, by their families, relatives and friends as well as by private and individual entities and thereby granted access to proper housing, should be given access to basic skills and training that would earn them money for a good living.
Introduction
The following questions should be asked about these people by way of introduction;
Who are these people living on our streets?
Where do they live and how do they make ends meet?
Where do they actually hail from?
What is their sex, racial, educational, social, family and religious background?
Do they have any other major occupation?
Are they all Ghanaians?
Which part of the city/ town do we often come across them?
Do they always achieve their dreams/ambition/ aspirations?
Issue of Housing And Training Them
The following questions could be raised regarding the issue of housing and trianing such people;
Could such people be ever housed properly?
What would be the costs?
Who would be willing to bear such costs?
Who could easily house such people--- governments, individuals, NGOs?
Could funds from outside the country be raised to house these people?
How easily could such people be trained?
How easily could such people be identified and brought together for such training?
What skills could easily help them to make ends meet or to help them earn money to enjoy a good living?
Other Pertinent Issues
These are general questions that could be asked regarding these people we have in our communities;
Do they have access to proper/ adequate healthcare, food and proper nutrition?
Do they have access to good drinking water as well as proper shelter?
Do they have good communication links with their families, relatives and friends?
Have they been abandoned by them?
For what reasons have they been abandoned if such is the case?
What is the way forward then if such is the case?
Are they in any way stigmatized?
Are they prepared to leave the streets to prepare themselves for a better lifestyle?
What is the prevailing culture in other countries ---- for instance in the US, UK, China and other countries like India, Nigeria and South Africa to mention a few?
